We are growing

The Sanctuary is now hosting 1,500 refugees, including 620 children.

How are you doing?  If you’re getting this note - the answer is probably “doing okay!” And that’s good!

We are sending you an update on what has been happening at Cañon de Alacrán - where the sanctuary now is hosting 1500 total/ 620 minors.  And the facts are that COVID has not hit this community, the refugees have built a new school, expanded the toddlers’ “nest”, created a 1-room health clinic where pregnant women can be seen in private, built a kitchen (the outdoor kitchens were shut down by the local government).

The big news:  this week, Gustavo got the Sanctuary School accredited by the Ministry of Education and teachers will start to be sent in for all three grade bands, elementary to high school!

The big need: FOOD: NON-PERISHABLE - rice and beans (just the Little Haiti community consumes 100 lbs of rice/day!).  Also, donations of clothing for all ages is appreciated because winter is coming and families seem to be leaving at a faster clip (2 months and then, they go — and take their clothing with them!);  donations of cash to Gift of Compassion (GoCompassion) via Commonweal, who will give you a tax acknowledgment.

GoCompassion has rented a house in Tijuana where items can be staged for delivery to the sanctuary (and volunteers can arrange to stay if you go to help).

If you have the ability before the end of 2022 to make a donation or commit to monthly gifts - ANY amount - please do so.  If you have items - contact me via text and we can arrange a time and place to receive.  If you wish to go volunteer - teach language, do yoga, plant garden, make art - let us know.

And now - please see the work of one pastor who sees great doubt, has great faith,  works with great determination, and deep understanding of his life’s purpose.

For 2023-2024:  GoCompassion will be working to create a pilgrimage path from Bolinas to the Border -

To teach about human migration in times of climate crisis, and a need to see that we are one humanity.  Children will be walking parts of "El Camino de la Tierra de Una Familia.”

With gratitude,
Angela and Tu-2
