Mysteries

Morning dew

No clouds, open skies and the temperature sits at 49 degrees fahrenheit. Today i s Saturday and the energies are in waiting mode. What will happen next - a mystery unfolding.

Living in these times has created an opportunity for everyone to practice what we preach. It is a time of change like we have anticipated, but never had to live before. Everything is in play. And the earth has let us know that things are going to be rocky until and unless we begin making different kinds of choices. Collectively, the country is being traumatized.

Up to now, the traumas have been happening, but everyone has been pretty shielded from seeing and feeling them. We focus only on our self-interest, self-care, self-orientation. Is that ego? The traumas have happened in pockets of reality - families, workplaces, nations in conflict, down to intimate relationships - and the injuries are resolved enough so that some measure of stability returns.

But the trauma being referred to here is different. It is the kind that exists on an entirely different order of magnitude. The displacement due to natural disasters - fires, quakes, rains. The displacement due ot loss of work and therefore incomes to support ourseles in daily life. The displacement due to ignorance about how systems work that are critical to recovery. There is the displacement of awareness about how everything is inextricably interconnected so that people fall back into thinking the trauma is personal and the recovery is individual.

That last bit, awareness - needs to shift dramatically and very soon because if it doesn’t, the resolution of the internal and external conflicts will never be foud. What is the way to go into making choices in this moment? Every choice is moment-by-moment. If the mystery of life tells us anything - there is a portal to peace and to compassion. How to find that portal is the life work of each and every one of us who can go beyond mere survival. And even those who are in survival mode, if they cannot find the portal, will die of exhaustion and fear due to an inability to make it out of this mess without hurting themselves and others.

For those who ask the questions about how to get to stability and emerge from living in crisis and chaos, it has to begin with going into silence and connecting again to life’s essence: breathing. The more a person allows themselves the act of simply ”being”, the more the fear intensifies and that is an opportunity because one is given a chance at breaking through life’s challenging experiences, and accepting that the answer that was a mystery is part of this journey called life. If one simply goes to the embrace of silence, then the inevitable is a state to simply be, in other words, “give it a rest”.

Given the complexity of conditions we are living with, there is no one answer, there is no unified plan, there is no way to “figure out” what to do. Everything has to be done and everyone has a role and timing will dictate when and how to act. What is the role for you, in this moment? Is now the time to act, or should you yield for now?

The questions are actually ones that are timeless: It always comes around to those who care about more than themselves - “What is mine to do?”.

Now, we are living through events that are raising the stakes - and the question is, “What is Ours to do?”. It seems to be one big Mystery.

It shouldn’t be.
